ACIA Expands Training Pathways with New Indoor Climbing Qualifications

The Australian Climbing Instructors Association is pleased to announce the inclusion of indoor climbing qualifications within its qualification scheme, supporting the growing demand for skilled, current and professionally recognised indoor climbing guides and instructors.
The Australian Climbing Instructors Association (ACIA) has expanded its training and assessment framework to include new indoor climbing qualifications, providing a clearer professional pathway for people working in indoor and artificial climbing wall environments.
The new additions recognise the continued growth of indoor climbing across Australia and the important role that qualified guides and instructors play in supporting safe, skilled and enjoyable participation.
The ACIA training scheme is designed to support the development of technical knowledge, safe practice, group management, teaching skills, sound climbing ethics and competent emergency response. ACIA’s approach places strong emphasis on the development of good judgement, practical experience and professional capability across climbing environments.
The new Indoor Climbing Guide Qualification is ideal for people who teach, guide and supervise climbing activities at indoor and outdoor artificial climbing walls and towers, including top roped climbing, bouldering and auto belayed climbing, in venues that are purpose-built artificial climbing structures with appropriate design, inspection and safety management systems in place.
The Indoor Climbing Instructor Qualification provides a further progression, and is ideal for people instructing, teaching and supervising participants who are developing fully independent skills on indoor and artificial walls, specifically including lead climbing and all its associated skills.
These additions strengthen ACIA’s commitment to supporting climbing instructors and guides throughout Australia, while providing industry, employers and participants with greater clarity around appropriate qualifications for indoor climbing delivery.
